Paul S. Ryan, Executive Director of the NYC Campaign Finance Board, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Monday to talk about the city’s public matching funds program.

“I first started studying this program more than 20 years ago. I was fresh out of law school, interested in democracy, and I concluded then that this was the best program in the country for small donor democracy. I believe that is still true today, and I think the evidence bears it out,” said Ryan.

“We take very seriously our responsibility of protecting taxpayer money and only giving it to candidates that meet all the requirements,” he added.

The NYC Campaign Finance Board’s matching funds program makes it easier for New Yorkers to run for office and easier for voters to support local candidates. It matches eligible small-dollar donations 8-to-1 with public funds, giving New Yorkers more say in local elections.
